Either side of the gates
What to do with the rest of the day.
Twenty minutes of driving does not make a day out. This is what sits at each end of it.
Hout Bay
The harbour, the seal trips and the Bay Harbour Market are two minutes from the northern gate.
Noordhoek
Long Beach, the farm village and the horse rides open up as you come off the southern end.
Cape Point
Continue south and the reserve is roughly forty minutes on from the Noordhoek gate.
Constantia
The wine route lies over Ou Kaapse Weg — and it is the alternative route when the pass is closed.
Trade & operators
Bringing a vehicle over the pass?
Tour operators, transfer companies and coach services crossing Chapman's Peak regularly should be on a registered account rather than paying at the plaza each time. Buses travel Hout Bay to Noordhoek only, and vehicles over 2,1 m wide are restricted — worth checking before routing a group.
Operators bringing a vehicle over the pass can reach the toll plaza on 021 791 8220, or the 24-hour control room on 064 880 4034 for anything about conditions on the day.
